Term of the Kerala government is about over. Now it is squandering money from the government exchequer against the publicity related to the governmental initiatives /achievements. Election is round the corner. Here, the ruling party wants to retain the power by placing its achievements before the voters. It has to be reached out the voters through the party organizational mechanism and should not be at the expense of taxpayers.
The political parties have their own strong organizational structure from bottom to top. The ruling government is an extension of political party (ies). So the concerned party (ies) has (have) responsibility in channeling its governmental achievements to the voters. But the organizational mechanism of all the political parties has not been directed in this regard. Instead of getting engaged in such activities, these political parties have been turned to be the POWER BROKERS of their own government.
Though, in a party system, the political parties have predominant roles to play, they are hardly thoughtful of it. It must be understood that the systematic and effective use of organizational mechanism in channeling its governmental achievements to the voters will cement the rapport with the voters/people further. Political parties’ ultimate objective is attaining governmental power.
While the party and its government try to survive in power, thrive of the society has to be taken into account and ensured. It purely relies on the efficient and effective finance management of government.
It must be noticed the document(information) gathered as per RTI Act says that the left government led by VS Achuthanandhan has spent a huge amount of 6.3 cores against the advertisement charge (from Apri2010 to June 2010) related to the 4th anniversary of his government from our recessive exchequer. Had the political parties are accountable to the common people; they would not have squandered the money of taxpayers in such a way. Well, it is the time to initiate debate on political culture and responsibilities of the political parties in parliamentary democracy.
